Commissioning a portrait or other artwork starts with an e-mail +/or phone conversation. We'll discover together whether what you're thinking of fits with my current work and is something you'd want to see take form.
We could talk about what size and kind of portrait (painting? fabric art? hybrid?) would work best for your taste and context, what the subject means to you, what photos you have that I could work from, and whatever else comes up. You may want to choose fabrics to be in your picture. For example, three siblings commissioned a portrait of the house they grew up in to give to their mother when she moved out of it. I included pieces of clothing they'd worn as kids –which made it an even more precious gift. If we decide to go ahead with your project, I'll provide a clear, detailed art commission agreement for us to sign. Prices vary with project (most have been under $10,000); we may be able to arrange an interest-free payment plan to fit your timing.
